Pre-Texts : Transforming the Art of Learning

School To Lead Foundation is one of the Implementation partners for 'Pre-Texts' in India. Pre-Texts is a pedagogical concept which integrates art into reading to enhance reading and learning outcomes for the students. It has been implemented in the United States, Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Spain and other western countries. It is brought to India by Professor Doris Sommer of Harvard University in collaboration with Professor Yugank Goyal of FLAME University in Pune.

To implement the pilot study of 'Pre-Texts' in India, school teachers will be trained to execute the pedagogy during the span of 6 months and data from the assessments will be analyzed to see the results. We already have our school partners in New Delhi and currently we are looking for school partners in Gurgaon and Delhi. Please reach out to us if you want to sign your school up for this pedagogical pilot study. We are ideally looking for low-income to mid-income private schools based out of Gurgaon, with grades available from 1 to 8 and more than 25 teachers. This study demands time commitment from the schools- other than that it's a fully funded study by Harvard so no financial commitment is required.

Please read below to know more about the project and how it can benefit your school and feel free to reach out to us for further information. The last date to sign up is 30th May 2022.

Benefits of being a School Partner for Pre-Texts in India

Literacy supports all areas of development (economic, social, emotional, cognitive, vocational, etc.). While the number of readers has grown worldwide, reading comprehension stays alarmingly low because students need to use texts in order to understand them. With Pre-Texts, students master texts by using them to create visual and performative arts. Simple yet rigorous, Pre-Texts adapts to any curriculum and cultural taste. “Make art with this text and reflect on the process” is the prompt that activates cognitive, creative and emotional development for groups of participants. Read more about the WHY.
